If you are a regular reader you will have heard me mention my friend Jane.
We met through the plus size community about 7 years or so ago and as we live around 25 minutes apart, we have kept up with the friendship, meeting up for dinner and prior to COVID would spend time with each other regularly.
I have mentioned her in past blogs for two things; her amazing millinery creations and more recently, Nail Art. Jane has taken up creating stunning designs on glue/stick on nails which absolutely astound me.
I have been the lucky recipient of a fair few sets, including ones that look like mother of pearl, Christmas influenced, Art Deco inspired and even ones that look like wood grain.
She really is exceptionally talented and creates the nails just for fun. She doesn’t have a small business or sell them on Etsy which is a travesty in my opinion.
Anyway, this blog is actually not about her nails at all.
Jane and I met up just prior to Christmas for a lovely meal at our favourite restaurant and to exchange presents. Over a stunning meal we chatted and caught up on life and what our plans were over the festive season.
I had lots of little gifts for Jane; nail art supplies, embellishments and suchlike. Jane gave me one beautifully wrapped rectangular parcel.
I was very excited to open it, however I knew I needed to wait until Christmas Day, but the temptation was great.
Eventually the big day came around and I arrived at her present. I can honestly say I didn’t have a clue at all to what it could be.
Opening the pretty ribbons, I found a black carboard box that was sealed, but marked up with a brand name that I didn’t recognise. The glued flap was easy to open however and I was stunned by the contents.
Jane had played a blinder and used a random box to store some gorgeous items that came from a company that I love, Luxulite.
I picked up the first piece which was a pretty pink and silver Flamingo themed item. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I love a ‘Mingo. They are fun and silly and look like an accidental creation.
With their big hooked beak and their stick like long legs, they look like they were drawn my a child with only pink crayons. And I think they are fabulous.
So, to have a brooch with sparkly silver stars, pink balls and rose gold almond shape beads wired onto a large silver rectangle, was a real treat.
There are 12 pink wires in total; 3 stars, 3 almonds, 2 rose beads, 3 silver beads and a huge ‘Mingo.
Totally fabulous, in my opinion.
I adored the whole concept and had already thought of the dress that it would match perfectly with; a pink Ella dress from Pin Up Girl clothing. A pink t-shirt turban and pink and white lulu hun shoes round up the look.
The second was a matching set and a little more unusual than normal. I certainly hadn’t seen it on the website either, but it was a complete stunner.
The set comprises of a brooch and a pair of earrings. The colours are muted and quite wintry, comprising of pearlescent milky round beads, speckled peach/pink cherries and browny leaves.
The brooch has a main section of a russet red leaf and the wires are chesnut brown. There are nine wires holding four cherries and five beads. The earrings are made up of two cherries and two leaves on long cherry stems.
As I previously mentioned, I hadn’t seen these on the website before and they are certainly very unusual. Not as bright as some of the other colours, I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them.
I have to admit that I am unsure quite what outfit to wear them with; I have various pink based outfits, but I also think that maybe a hunter green or a brown would compliment it very well.
The outfits are in my dressing room, I just need somewhere to put my gladrags on and go to.
Hopefully, quite soon!
Till then,
