Bimbling about on the internet the other day I came across this stunner of a dress with vintage vibes on my favourite site, Shein.

1930’s Style

A satin long sleeved dress/gown with a pussycat bow neckline in a unusual blue; not quite teal and not quite petrol.

Either way I absolutely loved the simplistic look to it and decided to give it a try.

Vintage Vamp

Priced at just £20.99 the dress is actually in their huge sale and was down to £13.49. Add to that the 15% discount that Shein are currently running and it was just too good an offer to refuse.

I placed the order on the 4th January and it gave an estimated delivery date of between the 16th and 18th of January. This is relatively normal for Shein.

Murder Mystery Ma’am?

You can imagine my surprise when a large parcel turned up on Wednesday 12th January. Along with the satin dress, there were a multitude of Christmas themed earrings (in the sale) and some fabulous fake nails.

But it was the dress that I was most excited to see. Would it match up to my expectations?

Put a Marcel Wave in Your Hair

Well, I am very happy to report that it did so, in spades!

The dress fitted like an absolute dream, from top to bottom. The sleeves were full and featured a button cuff in  a complimenting blue. The pussycat bow was made up of  long, thick ribbons which when tied create a full bow.

I absolutely adored the colour and felt that it really hit that vintage vibe.

In order to vintage it ‘up’ a bit more, I decided to go with my initial feelings that made me think of a 1930’s style elegant gown. Without over complicating things, I addded some deco style earrings and an original vintage brooch.

Oh and a 1930’s Marcel wave wig!

So, what was the verdict? Well, I think it was an absolute winner.

The Queen Mother?

Popping out into the back garden on a gloomy Sunday afternoon, I preened and posed to my little hearts content. The Floofy Boy had to photobomb me (as always) and we had a lot of fun playing chase, where I stood perfectly still and he ran around the garden like a lunatic.

Eventually it was time to go in and change up into another outfit, this time a delightful yellow wiggle dress with multi-coloured patterns. Obviously I will share that with you in another post.

Wallis?

I have to admit I was really sad to get out of this dress and wig. Whilst I felt the style made me look older and more sophisticated than in real life, I really like the look and would happily wear it to any vintage event.

Deciding to put some of the photographs out on Social Media, it was wonderful to see what people thought of the look and ideas of who I was channelling.

Mrs Simpson, Clara Bow, The Queen Mother and even Betty Boop came out as some of the ideas and I certainly couldn’t be more thrilled.

I think I need to add a couple of more accessories such as some small round glasses and some kind of headwear, but I am not sure what would work specifically.
