And no, I don’t mean the size of my hips!
What I do mean is the trousers I choose to wear when not in a vintage style dress.
To be honest, I have never really been a big fan of trousers within the plus-size ranges for two or three reasons. They are either a bit frumpy, made of terrible nylon/polyester material or cut in an unflattering way that shows off lumps and bumps including my tummy apron.
So for many years, I have shied away from them when not in uniform.
This then becomes problematic as I love my vintage style, but big circle skirt are a little bit chilly over the winter months, even with tights. Trousers really are the best option for the cold days.
My prayers were answered somewhat when I found a few perfect options over on the Unique Vintage website in America.
High waisted 1940’s style wide leg trousers are the perfect option for the winter months, whilst also working quite well over the rest of the year too.
My first pair was a gorgeous Navy blue pair with pockets and I have to admit have seen a LOT of wear over the past couple of years and are still going strong.
I bought a pinstripe pair right at the beginning of the COVID pandemic and subsequently another two pairs were bought and arrived.
Sadly ALL three of them are absolutely massive, both on my waist and of course as I am only 5 foot tall, they were vastly long. I need to take all three pairs to the seamstress to get them taken in and up and plan to do that in the next few weeks.
In the meantime that leaves me with only one pair and it just isn’t enough.
So, as I was bimbling on the Shein website I decided to see what wide leg trousers they had available. I have to admit I wasn’t disappointed at all.
Into the basket went two pairs. A plain black pair and a green ditsy print pair. Both were probably much wider than the 1940’s style I was used to, however were possibly a little more 1930’s style.
I decided to pair the black trousers with my spear pointed blouse, a black tie and a gorgeous, soft argyle pattern jumper in black and white.
Topping it off with a black wig, white hair flower and some black patent heels, I was all ready for my pictures to be taken.
Priced at just £18.49 before discount, the trousers are extremely wide and create almost a culotte effect. One of the best things is that they are also available in not just black, but emerald green, deep red and dusky pink.
So how were they?
The material is lovely and soft and as previously mentioned, so very full. I need to get around 10 inches taken off the bottom which given the graduated width will possibly mean they get a little less wide. However, I still intend to get them taken in to a more forties shape.
Adding the jumper, blouse and tie gave a semi masculine look but the addition of the long black wig brought back the femininity to it.
All in all, I highly recommend these trousers. They are comfortable yet smart. Gives a vintage vibe whilst keeping me warm in the winter months. Is much more practical than a skirt and can be worn with shoes or boots depending on the weather.
Only the black pair go up to a size 26; all the others are a 24 which fits up to a 57 inch waist.
That means the other three are in my size range too so I may have to go and indulge in one or two of the coloured pairs to match up with my collection of ties and a couple of tank tops that I have.
Perfect, really.
Till next time,
