Over the past several years (since I hit 40) I have had a good few wiggle dresses.
Now some people, especially those of us on the larger side, stay away from anything tight and clingy because god forbid you can see visible lumps and bumps!
I have to admit I was one of those people too until I stumbled across the Monica Wiggle dress by Pin Up Girl Clothing.
As soon as I saw it, I wanted it. Bumps be damned.
I started off with one, then two and a third happened to join the ranks. Purple, Teal and Silver/Black lurex.
One of the dresses I adapted for an ”Under the Sea” vintage ball by adding a multi layered tulle fishtail bottom. Of course it was the teal one and it was perfect for the whole occasion.
The down side of that was the heavy stitching needed to attach all the tulle to the main body of the dress. This means that I haven’t dared to take it back to its original design.
All three have been worn to events both big and small and I have felt like a million dollars every time I have put them onto my body.
So when I came across a couple of wiggle dresses on Shein that I quite liked the look of. Priced at an unbelievably low price, I threw a red and teal version into my basket.
The red dress was priced at £9.99 it was further reduced to £7.50 which was a no-brainer. Even more so was the teal version which started at £5.99 and was reduced to £4.50.
Two dresses for £12.00? What a bargain!
So how did they turn out?
Well, I never expected them to be anything like the “Monica” but they are exceptionally good, especially for the price.
Like the Monica, this dress can be pulled down as far as you want OR kept short and scrunched up. I tried both on during a recent shoot in Birmingham and was actually really surprised with how well it fitted and accentuated my curves.
Adding a vintage fur, a MiMo “Pin Up” wig and some high heels, I pranced and posed for the camera.
The dresses can be worn quite simplistically with some ballet flats for a quick lunch out or ‘blinged’ up with some sparkling jewels for a more sophisticated evening look.
All in all, I am pretty pleased with my purchase and for the price point, they work. As I have already said, they do not have the quality of the “Monica” but at 20 times the prices, they never would.
If you are wanting to put your toes into the ‘wiggle dress pool’ you could do quite well in giving these a try.
Till next time,
