Before the World went Pop and people were confined to their homes, there was a thing called Live Entertainment!
People went to the theatre, concerts, comedy gigs, opera, art galleries and more. And it was magical, wonderful and fun.
Of course, no-one could expect what came next and when it went wrong, it REALLY went wrong and we all know how the past two years have been affected.
Now I am not going to concentrate on the bad stuff too much, but over two years ago Boo and I booked tickets to see the phenomenal Dita Von Teese in her new tour “Glamonatrix”
Boo and I had originally seen her perform in London on her last tour, “The Art of the Teese” which was absolutely out of this world and as soon as tickets went on sale for the new tour, Boo got onto the internet and was able to secure two tickets.
Sadly this then got cancelled multiple times over the two years until eventually the rescheduled date of the 9th of March was arranged.
To be honest, I had completely forgotten all about it and was gobsmacked when Boo mentioned at the beginning of March that ‘we’ were going to London.
Initially I thought she was talking about her family and her, but as soon as she said “Dita” the penny completed dropped.
I had arrived a little earlier than Boo but wanted to do a bit of light shopping. My first port of call was at Laduree, macaron makers extraordinaire.
If you read my articles regularly you will know of my love for their Salted Caramel macarons. That doesn’t mean that I dislike their other flavours, but the S.C ones are my absolute favourites.
As I haven’t had any in quite a while, I decided to push the boat out and get a few different ones too; Ginger Orange, Marie Antoinette, Caramel Coconut and Mimosa.
All were placed into a ‘Cristal’ box which allows you to see the marvellous colours of your macarons.
Next stop was Fortnum and Mason as I wanted to get some tea. Again I am a bit of a tea snob and I love F&M Earl Grey, Lady Grey and a new variety, Countess Grey.
I also popped some biscuits into my basket; Earl Grey tea biscuits and salted caramel biscuits covered in milk chocolate.
They might be a little pricey but as I don’t drink anymore, I think I am entitled to a treat now and then!
Heading into the tube, I got on the Victoria Line to Oxford Circus which was only 3 stops away. Walking through Carnaby Street I decided to stop at a familiar pub, The Shakespeare.
I ordered a soft drink and sat reading my book on my kindle app. The pub was busy and a little noisy, but I was off my feet and sitting comfortably.
Boo text to say she was almost at Oxford Circus and so we arranged to meet at the Palladium Theatre which is where Dita was performing again.
This happens to be right next door to a Five Guys, so we went in to order a little food before the show. I had a standard burger and chips and scoffed the lot!
We left Five Guys and joined the queue to get into the Palladium.
Boo tried to take some photo’s but the advertising boards were so brightly lit, that it was difficult to get a good enough photograph.
Admitting defeat, we headed into the theatre and found our seats. One of the most amazing things was to see so many people I recognised.
Everyone was in their finest garb and it was so wonderful to see everyone out in public.
As for the show, it was absolutely sublime.
More performers than last time, it was a wonderful mix of Dita and her talented co-performers. Jett Adore, Dirty Martini, Tosca Rivola, Lazlo Major, Lana Kai Fox all ably compered by the marvellous Jonny McGovern.
Whipping the crowd into an absolute frenzy, Jonny was both naughty and funny. He made everyone pose for selfies and even sang some dirty songs.
Absolutely brilliant!
All too soon it was the end of show and it was time to head back to the train station. I have to admit that my knee was starting to be a little painful, but I had my medication with me.
Now all I needed was a drink…
Sadly this is where it all came to a crashing halt as every single shop and eatery at St Pancras was already closed.
Getting onto the 1155pm train, I wearily sat down and tried hard not to fall asleep. Thankfully it didn’t take too long until my station rolled into view.
A thoroughly enjoyable day and I was thoroughly looking forward to my comfy bed!
Till next time,
