As is my tendency, I was having a bit of a bimble on the internet and as soon as I saw the shawl collar dress, I immediately loved it.
The only downside was the colour. Whilst I absolutely loved it, it was so bright that I was a little worried that it was out of my comfort zone.
Deciding to take a punt, I ordered it, then eagerly awaited its arrival.
So what was it I liked and didn’t like?
Well, on first view, I felt it had a bit of a 30’s vibe. Large cuffed sleeves, decorated collar and a button down front design, I loved the whole feel of the dress.
The fact it was bright green was just that one little point of concern.
Priced at 10.99, with discount it came out at £7.35, which meant it would be stupid not to give it a go. So of course I did.
When it arrived I was even more impressed. The ‘tuxedo/coat’ style dress was divine and when you added the side split and diamante embossed collar it took it from a simple dress to a stunning one.
As the item was designed for a fitted look, with darts and seams, I was hoping that it would fit as I had to order in a size 4XL which the fitting guide advised me was 50/43/53.
Either way, it was worth the chance as if it didn’t fit then it would be easy enough to return it to the UK depot.
So, what was the verdict?
Well, the green made me feel like a true goddess!
It fitted a treat, if a little clingy (but I expected that). The sleeves were full enough to be a real feature of the dress and hit that vintage vibe.
One thing I wasn’t too keen on? The pearl/diamante buttons going down the front, as they seemed a little blingy especially given the diamante studded collar.
That is easily sorted out though. A few plain buttons and I feel it will look a whole lot better and more up my street.
The dress comes down quite low on my calf, given that I am only 5 ft tall (60″) so on longer limbed people it will be more mid-calf.
If desired, I could get it taken up a few inches but I don’t think I will as it hangs at quite a nice length on me.
I decided to style this up with my dark red wig and some fabulous black suede platform slingbacks which echoed the vintage look I felt the dress gave.
Going forward I quite fancy styling this up with a contrasting turban and some rockets or lulu hun shoes. I think that would hit a different vibe yet hit my desired vintage look.
Roll on the chance to wear it somewhere fancy!
Till next time,
