One of the biggest issues I have as a vintage lover of plus size proportions is hosiery.
Being only 5ft tall and wearing a size 24/26 dress size it was always difficult to get anything to fit at all, let alone large enough until the amazing Snag came along.
Those of you in the know will have already have seen some of my previous posts regarding their amazing items.
But for those of you who are new to either my blog or Snag…
What is so brilliant about them?
Well, it is the fact that you order your items based on dress size, height AND shape. This means you get an almost personalised fit.
This is exceptionally important when it comes to your height as there is nothing worse than tights or stockings that wrinkle down around your ankles or look like knee highs on those blessed with long legs.
Put that together with the issue of standard sizes not catering for those with thicker thighs and hips and it was a whole minefield.
I have wasted more money than I care to think of on stockings that cut into my thighs like cheese-wire. Of gussets that split when being pulled over my ample bottom. Wrinkled ankles from legs long enough for a giraffe.
With Snag there is a handy size guide which gives you your perfect size. Of course you do need to take a pinch of common sense too. For example if you are only 5ft5 but have a short body and longer legs, you may need to try a couple of sizes to find the best one.
For me, I need a Short F.
This is because I am both short AND have short legs too!
Every single pair I have purchased has been an instant hit and a brilliant fit.
And then they released the ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ range.
Now if anyone knows me personally, they will know I have been a huge fan of the RHPS for over 35 years and own the video, DVD, original Vinyl album and attended the brilliant theatre show on numerous occasions (obviously dressed to kill)
Little Chick and I even went to a showing (her first) in Birmingham a few years ago and she loved it as much as I did.
Sadly I was a little late to the launch (and have NO idea how) and when I went to just have a look at the normal mock garters, I was shocked and thrilled to see a whole new range –
The S&M range.
This stands for Stockings and Mock Garters and included the brand new hosiery based on the iconic show. Frank, Brad, Janet, Columbia and The Time Warp are all included and I couldn’t get enough.
This is exactly where the vintage lover in me went crazy.
Vintage Lover? What does that have anything to do with the RHPS?
Well Columbia is a standard stocking with full seams and a cuban heel. Available in FIVE different shades.
This is absolutely unheard of and literally made me cry.
The prospect of stockings in MY size that would give me that coveted seamed leg look for my daily life and more so, vintage events made me happier than you can possibly imagine.
Even more so, the five different shades, Milk Bottle, Builders Tea, Caramel Latte, Fudge and Praline would cover most skin colours from ghostly pale to dark skinned.
Priced at £8.99, they are also exceedingly affordable especially if you are buying multiples as they offer a continuous discount (3 pairs 10% off, 5 pairs 15% off and 10 pairs 25% off)
Of course I had to buy a couple of pairs, so opted for Builders Tea, Caramel Latte and Fudge. I also spotted a pair of mock garters called Burlesque which called to me.
The difference with the Mock Garters are that there is no need to wear a suspender belt as it has a waistband with cut out areas for your tummy, bottom and sides, then the legs of the hosiery.
Burlesque is a regular colour sheer tight but with a back seam of a natural shade too. Very unusual and also very desirable and in the basket it went.
My last purchase was another pair of Mock Garters; Brad.
These were a real show stopper featuring a hybrid lace/fishnet pattern which has a very art deco feel to the small weave. The finishing touch was a back seam of clear rhinestone crystals.
Perfect for a special night on the tiles!
In fact, the RHPS is touring locally around the date of my birthday. A chance to dress up and sing my heart out to my favourite theatre show, maybe.
Sadly Frank, The Time Warp and Janet are all sold out in my size but I can keep hoping that they restock them.
Please???
Until next time,
