If you are a regular reader you will have seen a recent post I wrote about Sywell Airfield and The Aviator Hotel. If you missed it, you can see it all here.
I was extremely fortunate to have my photographs taken both inside the Art Deco buildings and with a superb Tiger Moth plane, courtesy of the Thomas Castle Aviation Heritage Scholarship Team.
The plane AND the hotel were both stunning and I managed to get a whole array of photographs in two different outfits for my blog, as well as having a fabulous lunch in the restaurant.
So, where do Hot Rods come into the equation?
Well, as I was having my photograph taken by Tom’s Tiger Moth, a whole slew of cars arrived at The Aviator.
Cars of various years, colours and styles all rolled into the car park and the noise was AMAZING.
I was so lucky to be there at exactly the right time when the National Street Rod Association had a weekend drive/stay planned, choosing The Aviator as their hotel for the night.
All of the drivers were ushered to the airfield as they had arranged a tour, leaving their cars on display in the car park. Obviously it was too good an opportunity to miss.
Wandering around looking at all the different cars, there were a couple that I absolutely loved including a dark blue with burgundy one.
It was an absolute stunner and I posed to the side of it before making a comment about the beautiful vehicle.
A lady stood opposite responded to me, and it turned out that this wonderful ride belonged to her!
We stood talking for quite awhile as she told me all about her car, the fact that she called it her ‘mid life crisis car’ and then went on to tell me that a gorgeous dark red car parked nearby was her ‘pre-mid life crisis car!’
She said she let her husband drive it, but she was the proud owner and I was as envious as I could be.
Pointing out a grey car parked behind, she mentioned that it belonged to her brother and the cars were a real family event.
She happily told us that they were on a ‘run’ and were staying at The Aviator before more driving the next day. Whilst I cannot be sure, I think she mentioned that some of the group were going up in the Tiger Moth airplanes too.
I don’t know what I was more envious about; the cars or the flight!
Till next time,
