Well, with a title like that you imagine that this blog is about some guilty secret from the past.
In fact, it’s about a vintage style dress in a check pattern!
This was another of the amazing Miss Candyfloss dresses that I purchased with my birthday money from the fabulous Boho Chic Clothing website.
Miss Candyfloss is a clothing company designed in Sweden with vintage styles and features. The level of detail in every garment is exceptional; covered buttons, pleats, fitted darts and double collars are wonderful additions.
I have already reviewed a couple of items including the Aslani Sun and the Alize Moss dress and jacket combo that I reviewed here.
However, the Isleen Sand dress didn’t even make the list of possibles on my first order and happened to be an ‘also ran’ when I placed a second order.
The reason for that was I didn’t think it was exceptional or even stood out enough, compared to some of the other designs.
Beige, taupe and cream checks make up the whole dress, with a small cream Peter Pan collar and bow.
The dress features a row of buttons down the front and a belt in the same check pattern. It has two deep pockets and a full skirt.
One of the best features of this dress is that it is made from a lightweight cotton which has been absolutely perfect in the recent spate of hot weather.
The Isleen Sand dress is again in the sale with a massive reduction of 50% making it just £55.45. Boho-Chic even offer free postage when you spend over €50.
Of course, now we are no longer in the EU, there is a small amount of tax and duty to pay but it is all related to how much you spend.
I mentally added about 20% to the cost to cover the charges but it was nowhere near as much as that.
The size I ordered was a 5XL which has a bust measurement of approximately 55 inches and a waist of 47 inches. Given that I am a size 26UK, I had no problem with the fit of this dress.
Apart from one thing…
The bust area is very structured and featured some ruched/darted area which goes down into a high waisted section.
Given that my bust is very full and voluptuous, the joined sections are completely filled. Whilst the buttons are not busting open or even gaping, the stitched areas have no room left to give.
I do feel that when I wore this dress to see how it looked, I certainly had the wrong bra on so this could be completely different when having the right one on.
As I mentioned earlier, I wasn’t sure about this dress as I thought it was a little bland for my normal taste. However there was just something about it that I really liked.
When I tried it on, I also knew that I had made the right decision. I felt smart, pretty, weather ready AND really very vintage.
In these photographs I added some vintage Van daal suede shoes and a hat from the marvellous maker Karen Harvey of ‘Reinvintaged’
However when I went to visit family a couple of weeks ago, I added a fabulous new pair of shoes from the Lulu Hun Sale, the Agnes Heel which is a beige and ivory shoe that went perfectly with the dress.
I even had an original vintage leather bag that matched the shoes to perfection so I added that into the mix too.
Sadly it was so hot that day that I didn’t get any photographs at all. However I am sure I will be pairing that all up again soon and will be sure to get some pictures then.
Until then,
