Just before I went to Chicago I had a lovely message on Instagram from Annabelle’s Wigs asking if I would like to try one of their vintage style wigs.

Well if you read my posts or follow me on Instagram, you will know I am an aficionado of wigs and wear them often in my photographs. It would be lovely to try a new one, so I gratefully said ‘yes please’.

It was only a couple of days later that I flew to Chicago so the wig arrived when I was away. However it was a lovely surprise to come home to, and I couldn’t wait to try it out.

Sadly, whilst I was out and about last weekend, I blew my gastrocnemius, which is a muscle in the rear of the calf.

The basic function of this muscle is to flex the ankle and knee, making walking, running and jumping possible.

Add that to the duff ACL/Meniscus on my right leg and I was left, well in the words of the hospital, Legless!

The hospital was really concerned that using crutches may lead to further deterioration of my right knee, so I was given crutches and instructions to only use them from the bathroom to the bedroom!

On top of that I was told to rest, ice, elevate and keep a close eye out for DVT’s.

This means for the last week I have been stuck on the bed, looking at the same four walls and feeling pretty fed up.

My mental health was taking a bit of nose dive when I remembered the stunning wig that I had sitting in the bedroom with me.

Normally I would put on my frock, do my face and have a fun time posing in the garden whilst showing off the splendour of this wig.

However, not being able to navigate the stairs has left me with little choice.

I put on my big girl pants, grabbed my make-up bag and proceeded to have a selfie session!

When Annabelle’s made contact, I had a really good look at their vintage range. I have to say, I was amazed at all the options they had, including half wigs, bumper bags and lace fronts.

I was immediately drawn to two or three options and for the life of me, I couldn’t choose which I liked the best.

To solve the problem I listed the four I couldn’t make a decision on and send it to Annabelle’s with the instruction that I loved all of them and as I didn’t know what their stock levels might be like, to send me any one of them.

The four I listed were the Vida, Brooks, Dotty and Rita.

None of the wigs were similar; the colour, cut and era were all different and I was excited to see which would arrive.

Taking the wigs one at a time, you will see exactly what I mean.

Vida (£30.99)is a glamorous 1950’s long ginger wig with Bettie Bangs and waves at the back.

The Brooks (£26.99) is based on the 1920’s silent film star, Louise Brooks and is a deep black, sharp bob.

Dotty (£24.99) is a beautiful silver pin-up style, shoulder length wavy wig with a full fringe which also has a little wave to it.

The Rita (£27.99) is a gorgeous golden brown short wig, styled with close finger wave curls and has a very 1930’s feel about it.

I loved all four of the wigs and knew I would be happy whichever one arrived.

However, I was really thrilled when I opened up the package to see the stunning ginger glow of the Vida wig popping out at me.

Now, I have pink wigs, red wigs, blonde wigs and even turquoise wigs, but I don’t have one that is ginger. This was now rectified with the Vida and I couldn’t wait to put her on.

This wig is absolutely up my street; the Bettie Bangs, curls, centre parting and the whole vibe about it really sang to me.

The only thing I needed to do was decide how to style it.

My original plan of wearing the wig with a tight black vamp-like dress and heels had gone right out of the window with my injury. In fact, I wouldn’t be standing anywhere too soon.

Wanting to make the best of it and also cheering myself up, I grabbed the cosmetics bag and a new outfit that I got in the Hell Bunny sale; a tropical ukulele print skirt and top.

Adding some green monstera leaf earrings, I spent a fair time on my make-up. Red/Orange eyeshadow, false lashes and of course the classic bright red lipstick and I was set.

Obviously being pretty limited in my movements, I wasn’t able to grab many accessories but played around a bit with my actual glasses and the placement of the hair.

I wanted to do Annabelle’s proud and show off what a great wig the Vida is.

Talking of Vida, how was she?

Made of  100% Kanekalon, the wig is soft and silky and can be washed at home if desired. The quality of the wig is outstanding; full, thick and easy to brush, style and wear.

As I mentioned, priced at just £30.99, She is a complete bargain for the superior quality that you get. I have to admit that I was very impressed with the fit, styling and the realistic feel to the hair.

Of course, I want to put Vida on again when I am more mobile and can get out in public and really show her off, however for now, I hope these photographs will give you some idea of just how good she is.

If only they did Vida in every colour….. Now there’s a thought!
