As many of you know, I am a bit of a girly girl.

I love nothing more a full skirted dress, petticoat and little feminine shoes.

But I also love a fantastic pair of tailored trousers with a smart shirt, vintage tie and a pair of braces. Add a boater or a bowler and I am happily in my element.

I love wearing distinctly masculine clothing but giving it a feminine twist. Clearly I won’t get mistaken for a man, but I love the options that clothing give me.

Anyway, after getting quite a large collection of ties, I experimented with different colour blouses, trousers and accessories.

And then I saw some vintage cravats online.

Having never considered the humble cravat, I ended up looking online for cravats to match with my various pairs of wide legged trousers.

I have to say that I was not disappointed, especially by the amount that I found on eBay.

Obviously there are many hundreds of thousands of new cravats; some with pocket squares and cufflinks. However there were even a few original vintage ones available, from such brands as Tootal and Dooleys.

I recently went to a car rally and styled it up with a crisp white spear-point blouse and a rather natty straw boater.

One of the best things about this style of clothing is the comfort level; no stockings, corsets or high heels. The wide leg trousers work really well with a smart pair of brogues or even a lace up Victorian style ankle boot.

They are also great for the British weather; cool enough on the rare hot day, yet very suitable for the inclement, windy or wintry days. I have my eye on a couple more pairs from my favourite Vintage repro website, Unique Vintage.

Ideally I am waiting for their November Sales so I can save a few pennies.

Oh and then spend them on some more cravats!

Till next time,
