The other Saturday I headed to the theatre with my bestie, Helen to watch a performance involving Lucy and Agatha.
Who ? You might ask.
Pin Curled Hair
Well, two of my favourite ladies, in fact!
The theatre was hosting ‘An Evening with Lucy Worsley’ who was going to be discussing her latest publication all about the Countess of Crime, Mistress of Mayhem and Murder, Dame Agatha Christie DBE.
Time to Style
A noted historian and presenter, Lucy had chronicled the life and times of Agatha and was going to be talking all about her life, loves, books and a lot more besides.
Before the theatre Helen and I decided to head to Northampton to have something to eat and make a real evening out of it.
Hair…Done
We parked in one of the multi-storey car parks and walked through into the main part of town, deciding to head into The Old Bank pub to have drinks and dinner.
It was a busy, bustling pub and we were spoilt for choice with their expansive menu. I went for one of my favourites, steak pie, mash and vegetables whilst Helen opted for the rump steak skewer, chips and onion rings.
Vintage Undergarments
There was a bit of a wait for the food, but when it eventually came it was fantastic and brilliantly priced too.
Both of us finished our mains and decided that the sticky toffee pudding was too good to miss, and had a portion each before realising it was nearly time for the performance and headed down the road to the theatre.
Out and Loud
Checking in to our seats was quick and simple and we were in the second row from the front. Now we just had to wait for the Hostess with the Mostess, Lucy Worsley herself.
Now if you are a lover of historical programmes especially the Tudors or podcasts featuring notorious lady murderers, you will probably know of Lucy.
Pudding Heaven
She has had numerous television programs dedicated to such topics as Jane Austen, the Suffragettes, Blitz spirit and even the witch hunts and has written several books which is where the Agatha Christie connection comes in.
Lucy was a delight to listen to; she was funny, informative and had lots of anecdotes alongside a powerpoint presentation that she used to show rarely seen photographs and letters.
The Lovely Lucy
The first half was the presentation and talk about Agatha and then there was a short interval. I was happy to stay in my seat whilst Helen fetched the drinks I had ordered.
When Lucy came back (in another lovely red dress) she opened up the floor for the theatre-goers to ask all and any questions that they wanted to. It didn’t necessarily need to be about Agatha or the new book.
Mwaaah!
There was a complete range questions, asking such things as best A.C book, to the subjugation of females in current society.
It was a spirited, fun discussion but sadly over far too quickly.
Pretty In Pink
Heading out of the auditorium, there was the opportunity to queue to get books signed personally, but the queue was massive and I didn’t think my leg would allow me to stand that long.
We decided to call it a night and headed down to the car park where we made our way home, chatting all about the wonderful evening we had.
Back Home
Dropping Helen off, I headed back home, tired but elated. I went straight up to bed, but there was one problem…
I had Agatha on my mind and a fresh copy of ‘And Then There Were None’
