Whilst wilfing around on the Interweb I came across a gorgeous dress which really caught my attention.
A silky midi dress with a vibrant, swirly floral pattern in teal, orange, amber and black which was being sold on the Shein website.
Silky Selfie
I have to admit that the dress was not something that would normally appeal to me as it was a little more modern in both style, pattern and cut. However it also had a certain ‘something’ that just called to me and so I put in an order.
The dress is made of a thin, silky polyester mix which has long full sleeves, a slight A-line skirt and a ruched fitted bodice. The shoulders have a ruched yoke and this gives a very fitted silhouette.
Perfect Print
I loved how the design had real structure to it and that gave it an almost 40’s look yet with a 70’s pattern and feel. The deep V bodice added a little bit of a wow factor and I was very eager to try it on.
When the dress arrived I put it straight on. I wanted to see what kind of fit it would have on me, especially the bodice area and also what kind of bra I would need to wear given the depth of the V neck.
Vintage Vixen
I admit to being a little concerned as to how the dress would look on my body. This kind of material ‘takes no prisoners’; there is no stretch or give and it clings to every lump and bump.
Now, given that I have a lot of lumps, bumps and wobbly bits, I knew these could be highlighted in a bad way. However, I knew I had to try the dress as I genuinely adored the look of it.
With My Special Boy
I have to say that the second it floated down over my body, I was hooked.
Yes, it clung to every curve and bump. But it highlighted those in a fabulous way rather than negatively. The bodice cupped my breasts, then the skirt skimmed down over my hips and tummy apron (the bit that I like the least) without clinging and feeling tight.
Feeling Special
The length on me is a little more than midi as I am only 5 foot tall. Resting at lower calf, my silhouette was elongated rather than looking short and stumpy.
All in all, the dress ticked all the boxes for me and I felt like a bit of a siren, hence the title of the post.
Smiling Faces
The first time I wore this was shopping on a Saturday. Even though I loved what I was wearing, I was still a little nervous as it was certainly not my normal style and being a size 24/26, I felt it was a little revealing yet classy.
During my shopping trip, I genuinely had two or three people come up and compliment me on what I was wearing. This calmed the nerves somewhat and made me feel much more secure in my choice.
On The Road Again
I paired the dress up with a simple pair of black ballet flats with a suede bow on the front. Simple Lucite hooped earrings in an amber colour was as far as I went with the jewellery.
This dress is such a great design that I do think it could go from a daytime look to an evening one with very little effort; a pair of heels, a clutch bag and some sparkly earrings and anyone would be set.
Mirror, Mirror
I am wearing a 4XL (size 24) which has a bust size of 50.4″ and waist 46.1″ and given that it is an A-line skirt, the hips are very generous. It is also available is a size 16, 18, 20 and 22.
Priced at £18.49, it really is a bargain. As I was ordering some other bits and pieces (mainly homeware) I got 25% off which meant I only paid £ 13.87 which is just brilliant given the quality of the design.
First Try On!
I absolutely love it and am so very glad that I took the plunge and ordered it, even if it was completely out of my recognised style. I do think, however that with a camisole underneath, some rocket originals, a fitted jacket and maybe a little tilt hat, It could be transformed into a 1940’s outfit.
Either way, I intend having fun wearing it, whatever the styling.
