On a recent post I explained that my posts were a little sporadic due to my Mum being hospitalised.
For over 10 weeks she was away from the family home and I had been looking after my uncle and cousin whilst still trying to work full time and visit her nearly every day.
Pancake Day!
It hadn’t been easy, that’s for sure.
I have to admit that it had also been a pleasure. The ‘Boys’ (as they have always been referred to) love to help, want to please and really enjoy doing their little jobs.
Shopping Day
Over the 10 weeks, Albert had started coming to the supermarket with me and loved it so much he then told Diverus how great it was and now they fight to see whose turn it is to go shopping.
Diverus is a whizz when it comes to putting on the washing machine and hanging all the clothing out on the line.
Road Trip
Both of them like to help with the food preparations and we sit down in the kitchen, all peeling and chopping as we listen to the radio and sing along with all the old songs we know.
Of course, as much as we were having a lovely time, working together and helping each other, it was really important to get Mum home.
Paint Samples
The week before I was advised Mum was due home, I took delivery of a proper hospital bed which would aide in Mums mobility and hopeful recovery.
This meant that her original bed (a very expensive Adjust-o-matic double) needed to be removed. Upon doing that it was evident that the room was a little ‘tired’ and needed a bit of a make-over.
Before…
As the new bed was only a single, she had no bedding for it so I decided a few changes were in order.
This meant taking out every single belonging, ornament, piece of furniture and all of her clothing. This was all put into bin liners and boxes, for us to sort out later.
The following day was a Saturday and that meant painting day!
…After
Starting off with the darker woodwork, I painted all morning and it was starting to look pretty good. The walls were a bright blue shade and I was a little worried that they would be too ‘much’.
Once the walls were covered in the first coat, they looked pretty good. I would go as far to say as smashing.
Beautiful Blue
A lot of hard work went into finishing all the painting and I was exceedingly chuffed with the finished effect.
All that was needed now was some new, fresh bedding.
I purchased some navy cotton sheets, pillowcases and a beautiful white and blue duvet from the Kamala Pin-tuck range.
My Little Helper
Priced at £28, it was a crisp white duvet with a dark blue motif printed in a diamond pattern across the pin-tucks.
I also got a spare duvet set in the sale, a blue floral pattern with the reverse white with blue. This was priced at only £7.50 so I thought it would be a good spare.
Bringing The Outside In
The final touch was a beautiful hand-made blue crocheted blanket made up of five or six shades of blue. I thought this would be a lovely addition for those days when Mum might need a little more warmth, or to have around her shoulder when sat in her rocking chair.
I was exceedingly thrilled with the finished room. It was bright, fresh and beautiful.
My only hope was that Mum would think the same when she was allowed to return.
