Following on from my recent post about a new found love of cross-stitch and the resulting creation, Mildred the Giraffe I have actually been commissioned to create another notebook.
MIldred the Giraffe
If you missed the colourful Giraffa camelopardalis, to give her the scientific name, you can see her in all her glory HERE
It took around 4 weeks to complete the whole cross-stitch design and once the material was washed, dried and ironed, around 3 hours to completely cover the leather-bound notebook.
“Hare-Brained”
Several of my staff members had seen me stitching and I showed them the finished article. This led to one of the staff members asking if I would take a commission from her.
Close Up
Having never agreed a commission before, Pam would look for the design she preferred and I would do the project for her free, so that it would give me something to do and also help with my anxiety.
Instructional Information
Now, Pam absolutely loves Hares.
Complex Pattern
Those long legged, bouncy, rabbit looking things that frolic in springtime.
All The Threads
We ended up looking online for a suitable pattern and whilst there were hundreds to choose from, none floated her boat until we came up with the adorable Bothy Threads “Hare Brained” kit from Amazon.
Progress
Priced at only £22.05, the kit contains all the items needed to create the quirky Hare picture. Threads, Aida, needles, full instructions and pattern to follow.
Marking as I go…
I already have the leather bound notebook, the glue, card for the inner covers, ribbon for finishing and the extra thread to sew the Aida around the book.
And I am Off……
All I need now is to actually start sewing the Hare!
As of 10/06/2023
This kit is slightly different to the giraffe in that the first kit was a printed cross-stitch which meant the design was printed on the aida material and much quicker as a paper pattern didn’t need to be pored over and marked off.
Close Up
The hare is a plain piece of aida with paper patterns to copy. You find the centre yourself and decide which stitch you are going to start from.
Crediting the Artist
I find this a lot more laborious as every four or five stitches I feel the need to colour the paper in so I don’t lose my way in the pattern and end up either missing stitches or putting them in the wrong place.
Back-stitch to finish off
Hopefully I will be able to complete the whole project in 6 – 8 weeks, quicker if I put my mind to it!
