I have spoken in the past of my love for Neowalk products.
It was around 18 months when I got my first stick; The Gatsby. A clear acrylic stick with a question mark shaped handle which had thousands of golden sparkles inside.
The Gatsby
Topped off with a beautiful engraved collar with my blog name and the capability of being lit up with torches from within, it was a real marvel when you compare it to your bog standard grey metal NHS stick.
And that was the big difference.
Now, I am not talking on behalf of everyone who needs to use a stick, however for me personally, I hated needing to use a stick to start with and also felt a complete fraud when using it.
Gatsby On Holiday
This was born out from the fact that the NHS couldn’t seem to find anything wrong with my knee at all. They had crossed me off their books and left me to my own devices.
So why then was I still suffering so much pain and walking was difficult. I needed the stick most days and it enabled me to try and live as normal a life as possible.
Initially when I got the Gatsby it was both a benefit for my walking and my mindset. By that, I meant that people would comment on the stick and when they did, it enabled me to talk about my knee issue and slowly I got used to the fact that I really needed to use a stick.
Chicago Chums
Fast forward another year and the knee was worse than ever and I was needing to use it every day. Work, home and play, it didn’t really matter what I wanted to do, I couldn’t do it without the stick.
I wrote a blog all about the sticks I had and thought I would be content with those 4 sticks for now.
But the knee has got worse and for any length of distance I now use a lightweight electric wheelchair. I simply cannot get around like before and felt like even more of a fraud.
Cherry Bomb Beauty
I will write more about that later and what I have done about it.
Anyway, before Christmas I headed onto the Neowalk site to have a look at what was on offer, especially as there was a discount code on offer.
What happened next was that two sticks fell into my basket and magically paid for themselves, ensuring I had a couple of lovely presents to open on Christmas day!
There was not a huge amount of difference in the two sticks; both were clear with a DNA helix running through them but one was a white helix, the other a black helix.
I went with my standard question mark handles and a royal blue ferrule (mainly as I haven’t had one of those before) and a black ferrule on the other.
As my Gatsby has a torch in the bottom, I know it looks amazing when illuminated. You can also put coloured discs in the bottom and the clear acrylic glows with a hint of that colour.
Illuminating!
I went with a torch in the white DNA but didn’t bother with the black version as I didn’t think it would change the helix colour at all.
Most of my sticks have the rubber gel grips on, but I didn’t add them to these sticks as I wanted the whole helix to be seen and admired.
And did they live up to expectations?
Oh you can be sure they did.
Both were absolutely fantastic and suited me right down to the ground. I loved how different the black was from the white and I can see them being used for completely different reasons.
The white is fun and can be changed at will by the addition of a coloured disk. The black is more professional and can be used for work or an evening event.
Either way, they have already had a lot of usage and comments asking about them.
Of course, I tell them all about Neowalk and the amazing products that they have available including gel grips, snoods and multi-use bracelets.
After all if it helps someone else find a stick to help with their issues, especially if they too are struggling with getting their head round the need for a mobility aid, that’s the main thing!
