I have written about my best friend Helen, who I met when we both started working at the same place over 17 years ago.
“Hey, Gringo…..”
Now, we have been on mini breaks, undertaken murder mysteries, gone to the theatre on multiple times, drank ourselves silly, spent many a night dining on good food and generally had a bit of a blast!
Helen has her birthday almost a month before me and there is a 10 year difference which means when I hit 50 in July, she will have just turned 60.
Nottingham Bound
To celebrate her special day, another friend held a “Murder Mystery Party” which was set in the 1920’s.
I already had a couple of outfits I could wear, which I have showcased previously.
1920’s Does 2024
A Burgundy dress with heavy beading and an amazing bottom section of cut out ‘flaps’ was my first 1920’s dress, which was joined a couple of years later by a pale pink maxi flapper dress, full of silver sequins, sadly no longer in stock.
Both dresses were gifted to me by the amazing GatsbyLady who specialise in flapper and 1920’s fashion.
Flappertastic
I have to say that both dresses are absolutely gorgeous, but totally different to each other.
The burgundy is quite ostentatious, where the pink is very reserved. Both weigh a tonne, given the huge amount of embellishments attached to them
I had all the accessories to go with the outfits; gloves, jewellery, headwear and even finger-waved wigs.
Marcel Waves
However, I owned 1920’s style Marcel wave clips and thought I would bite the bullet and give them a go for the first time.
Washing my hair, I added a load of mousse, combed my hair and put the Marvel clips in all over my head.
Kiss Curls
Now I had short hair, in essence it should be quite easy. I had the instructions and now all I had to do was choose which dress to wear!
In the end, I went with the Burgundy Dress with gold embellishments.
All Ready to Go
Adding opera length gloves and a string of pearls, I was ready to Charleston all night long.
The party was excellent; the host, had really gone out of her way to put on a brilliant affair, and everyone had made such an effort with their clothing.
Off to a Murder
I even took along my “Gatsby” walking stick by Neowalk. A clear stick filled with golden glitter
Couldn’t get more apt than that.
Cheers!
The murder mystery was played and for the first time in my life, I actually worked out who the murdered was!
