Back in May I took the Uncles to the local theatre for a VE Day celebration concert.
Billed as a bit of a sing-a-long event, it was held in the afternoon, which happened to be a bit of a scorcher!

Pretty As A Picture
The performance was very much up my Uncles street; old war songs, a bit of dancing and some songs from later years, all topped off with a bit of pomp and ceremony with those “prom” favourites, Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory and the like.
There was much flag waving and clapping all round, and it was a couple of hours of patriotic war-time melodies, for most part.

Perfect For Spinning Around
I have to say, I think I was one of the youngest people in the whole theatre, as it was very much subscribed to by those who were either around in the war years, or born shortly afterwards!
All in all, it was a pretty good show, and the uncles had a brilliant time. I mean, a pint of beer, a singalong and an ice cream in the middle of the day.

Look At His Face!
Who could want for anything more?
I decided to go a little patriotic and wear a bit of red and white

I Want To Be Left Alone!!!
It was the first outing for my Jessakae “Poppins” dress which I purchased back in October.
This dress absolutely called out to me. I could see the wonderful Julie Andrews wearing her version of this in the original film, along with a big white picture hat, whilst riding a carousel horse.

What A Boy!
It took me back to my childhood and I knew I had to get it.
Even better, I managed to get it on sale for the amazing price of £85, down from £122.

Super Shady
Now with Jessakae, I fluctuate between needing a 4XL and a 5XL, so decided to go for the bigger size this time.
Looking on this now, it was a bit of a mistake, but not one I realised until that day in May.

Not Sure How I Will Get Up Off The Floor….
I had failed to take into account that the top section featured heavy ruching, almost like smocking. This meant that there was an awful lot of extra material and space, so whilst it did fit, it was quite big around both the bust and waist.
To be honest, this is not something I usually have to worry about!

You Can See The Bodice Is Too Big
It wasn’t particularly obvious to anyone but me. I could feel how it “hung” on me slightly, rather than sit more fitted.
Nevertheless, I put it on, along with some red vintage bow shoes and a big red platter hat.

Doing His Best Pose
This is a hat that I have worn hundreds of times, since I managed to grab it at a vintage event at York Races. I had seen it on the Instagram page of one of my favourite sellers, Timebomb Vintage.
I desperately wanted it, as I knew it would go with so many of my outfits, but as with most events, it is first come, first served and I wasn’t getting there until late on the first day

How Majestic
Walking into the main area for the sellers, there were Mickey and Fiona right at the very front.
And there on a stand, at eye level, was the hat of my dreams.

How Many Grass Stains Can I Add….
Of course, I snapped it up immediately and have never regretted a moment of it!
Anyway, back to the story.

My Mum’s Cherry Tree
May 8th also happened to be Uncle Albert birthday, so we had presents and cake.

Birthday Celebrations
He was absolutely blown away by the fact that he had been given tickets to see Kylie Minogue in concert. I had also bought him a couple of tour t-shirts so that he had one to wear when we went to Birmingham in a couple of weeks time.
More about that later, though.

Getting In The Way
After the celebrations, I went outside to try and get some snaps of the outfit.
Of course, as soon as the floofy boy saw the camera, he couldn’t resist joining in.

Beautiful Boy
That will be why, out of 56 photographs, I only have 8 without him in them!
It was pointless trying any longer.

What A Poser!
He was excited at joining in, the weather was quite hot and I didn’t see that he was going to stop at any point soon.
I added a beautiful parasol and an umbrella that I had managed to spot at Lady Peacock HQ during my recent vintage weekend away, which I actually needed due to how sunny it was.

Pretty Parasol
Feeling quite pleased with the pictures that I had managed to get, once looking over them, I realised that the dress seemed longer and bigger than I even realised.
I know it is not always possible to see my shoes, given my huge 5ft1 height, however this dress was not too far from the ground.

Almost Floor Length
Also, I could see that the bodice and skirt made me look quite “square”; certainly without much shape.
So, I have handed my beautiful dress to Dora, the expert seamstress.

Full Skirt
The plan is to remove the skirt completely, take sections out of the bodice, take a couple of inches from the TOP of the skirt (I don’t want to lose the pattern or shaped lace at the bottom of the skirt) and put it all back together.
I know she will do an amazing job, as always.

Perfect Match
I just need a carousel horse to ride now….

Carousel Horse???
Till next time,
