Sparkle And Shine….. Twice?

So when I last left you, I was at The Earl for my yearly Vintage event.

I had been to see Michaela at Edelweiss Hair, who gave me a marvellous ‘do and I had a mini photo shoot in my Tiki Dress.

If you missed that blog, you can read it here

My “New” to me shoes!

Now I had gone back to my Suite to get ready for the evening event which featured Lola Lamour and the brilliant Tom Carradine and his Cockney sing-a-long on the stage and the ever brilliant DJ Major Swing for pre-recorded classics.

In the week previous to the event, I had struggled to choose the dress that I was going to wear on the Friday evening.

Mainly because the 1st was too long and the 2nd was too long and the back was plunge-style and showed off all my under garments.

Thankfully, Dora, my master seamstress had taken both the 1st one up, and worked many wonders with the 2nd one.

She had removed the huge pink bow off the back, took up the rear train by several inches, then used that surplus material to make a privacy panel for the plunge back and moved the rear zip to the side.

It fitted much better and I could safely wear it without showing off my scanties!

Pretty in Pink

Now the decision came about which one to wear.

I wasn’t sure, so I took both with me. The intention was to then decide on the night what I felt was best.

Thankfully, one was hot pink, the other black with hot pink so all my accessories were the same, as was the make up and hair accessories.

Vintage Specs

I had a marvellous shower in a cubicle probably big enough for six to run around in, mainly because it had two individual showerheads.

Getting ready, I put on my standard make-up; light foundation, blush, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick.

I had gone with a hot pink lipstick by Maybelline which was supposed to last all night, not smear and not wear off.

Black and Pink!

Well, we would see about that, wouldn’t we.

After the make-up and accessories were all put on, I stood in front of the dresses and made my decision.

The Hot Pink it would be!

Pinktastic

Adding some classic black pumps and a reproduction Lux Deville black Lucite handbag, I was ready to hit the ballroom for the first full event of the weekend.

The hot pink dress featured a one-shouldered design, covered in sequins from top to toe.

I felt very glamorous.

Sparkle and Shine

Entering the entrance to the ballroom, I had a look to see what table I would be seated at and noted my companions for the weekend would be the brilliant Boo and Gary, Vicki and Matt, Karen and Martin and a new couple I had yet to meet.

I was so happy to be sitting with people that I already knew, as that helps the anxiety stay quiet. Giving hugs all round, we all sat down and started chatting away.

Sing-A-Long Time

Friday night was a hot and cold buffet which had everything from sandwiches to lasagne. We were all called up by our table numbers and there was an awful lot of food available, even though we were almost last to be called.

The Lasagne was fabulous and I may have had a small second portion.

A trio of desserts was given to each person, rather than a buffet which was very much appreciated.  It was all very tasty and I was very happy with the menu.

What A Lot of Fun!

Sitting chatting I noticed that every time I moved slightly, the sequins on the dress bodice scratched the soft inside of my arms. For the first hour it was not too bad, but it started to get pretty uncomfortable.

I decided that enough was enough so headed back up to my suite and changed into the second dress; black sequins on velvet with a hot pink bow.

Although made of the same fabric, this gown had long sleeves so there was no scratching or irritation going on.

Much Better!

Perfect!

Going back down to the ballroom, I was delighted when the sublime Tom Carradine started his cockney sing-a-long. There were little booklets with all the words in, just in case you were not familiar.

To be honest, I didn’t need the booklet as these were all songs I learnt as a young girl spending time with my Auntie Gwen.

It was a rousing good time, and people joined in with all the old time songs.

Round Two

Sadly my leg was starting to pain me a little so it was time to head up to bed with a cup of tea and my painkillers.

After all, I didn’t want to overdo it and miss the main dinner/dance on Saturday night.

As for that lipstick, it stayed on so well that when I used my make-up remover it left me looking like this!

Till next time,
